After stints at WIZZ in Streator, IL and WIRE Indianapolis, Bob Benson joined The Mighty 1290 KOIL in 1965.  He went on to WLS Chicago, KGO in San Francisco, but those accomplishments would still seem small.  In 1974 Benson founded AP Radio in Washington, DC and was Managing Editor.  With all of this under his belt, Bob Benson is probably best know for his days as VP of News and Executive VP at ABC Radio (1978-1993).  Today Bob lives in Florida where he is president of American Broadcast Development.
Mike McCormick came to Nebraska in 1965 to join 1290 KOIL after working at WDGY in MinneapolisAs many other Nebraska Radio Personalities of the time, he found his way to WLS in Chicago.   Eventually Texas would become home.  In 1973 McCormick left WLS for KAUM in Houston.   Today J. Michael Hankins is the President of MCC Radio in Austin.

Jimmy O'Neil hosted the ABC TV show "Shindig" from 1964-1966 before coming to Nebraska.  He was hired by Tom Barsanti, the PD at WOW, to be the morning man in a team of super personalities that took WOW from a low-rated news and farm  station to a Top 40 powerhouse with enormous ratings and a strong regional presence--Enough to unseat KOIL.  After WOW O'Neil crossed the river to work at KRCB in Council Bluffs.  Jimmy has had the honor or being transformed into a cartoon character on "The Flintstones" as Jimmy O'Neilstone .
"The Real" Don Steele became an L.A. Legend but not before stopping at KOIL in Omaha.  Most famous for his stints at KHJ, Steele also had his own TV show (The Real Don Steele Show) which was a Saturday night dance party.  Steele's last days behind the mic were spent in the PM Drive slot at K-Earth.  He passed away in 1997.  Steele is immortalized on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame.
