From 1240 in Lincoln to 1290 in Omaha...Then on to other Midwestern
States, Dave Diamond made his way to St Louis (WIL), Indianapolis(WIBC) and
Denver (KBTR) before his gigs at KCBS and KFI . These days he's back in the Midwest
where he is the CEO of radio and TV operations at Black Hills State University.
Prior to his first radio job in Nebraska at KFOR he worked for a station known
as WFOR. |
It's not all about
Football! University of Nebraska Graduate Don Rosenberg took an announcing
job at KOIL after he graduated and never needed that accounting degree. |

didn't instantly end up on the coast. He worked in Iowa, was at the original
KRNY-AM and went to WFIL in Philadelphia before his San
Francisco Days (KKIS, KFRC, KIOI). |
Do they ALL end up on the coast? No! Fred Winston
of
mighty 1290 fame made his home in Chicago at many of the big name stations (WLS,
WMAQ, WCFL) and is still going strong at WXXY. Winston was paired with
newsman Lyle Dean both in his first stint in mornings at WLS (in the
early/mid-1970s) and at WFYR. Best-known bit was Choose Your News, later
revived in midday's at WLS as News You Can't Use. |

Gary Gears became another Chicago Favorite.
After making a name with Armed Forces Radio Vietnam, Gears went on to a
memorable commercial career. WCFL and WLS gave him a home, as did WDAI after a short stay in the great white
north at CHUM in Canada. Gary also had a successful voice over company
that did work with clients such as ABC-TV. |
He doesn't need to say who he is, as his distinguished voice is recognized
world wide. However, "This is Gary Owens...." is his
signature (as is the pose in the photo). Another 1290 KOIL alumni, Gary got his start at KORN in
Mitchell, SD (his birthplace) and eventually crossed over to television where
some of his most famous
work was done (Gong Show, Laugh-In and a wide assortment of voice work). Owens returned to radio in the 80's working for stations like KFI and
KKGO.
He is now heard on the Jones Satellite networks "Music Of Your Life"

Our next entry needs no introduction. Ed McMahon gave him one every
week night for over 25 years. Johnny Carson, from Norfolk was heard
on KFAB and WOW in Omaha in his early days, before going to the Red & Blue
network.
His classics are alive and well at JohnnyCarson.Com |
He would become the "Dean" of Chicago news. WLS and WGN's own
"Walt Kavanaugh". Lyle Dean never worked at KFAB. The mighty 1290 and Lincoln's Music Station KLMS
welcomed Lyle to Nebraska after getting his feet wet at Indiana's first lady of
radio, WIFE Indanapolis. |

It's Monday morning and the sun is barely up. Something strange just
happened. You may have very well been "Morganized!"
Roger W. Morgan caught many an Omaha listener off guard while at KOIL, WOW
and more recently, KGOR. He loves rock & roll radio so much he has
created his own world wide program "Rock and Roll Rewind" which is the
flagship product of his own Marconi Connection radio company. Roger has
also appeared in television and movies (most recently, dot com for
murder). Visit Rock &

In the mid 80's Sioux Falls, South Dakota radio would become became familiar with a cutting edge Program
Director on 93 KKRC. A few years later in Omaha, Nebraska he would
show Sweet 98 his stuff. His Name? Dan Kieley. It's no surprise
that he ended up programming KIIS-FM in LA. Recently, after some health
problems, Dan has taken it his radio excitement down a couple of notches and
operates his own entertainment company. |
