Don Cole
|
Don Cole graced the studios of KFAB twice in his
career. Before leaving for a short career with KOA in Denver,
"The Ol' Redhead" worked in the sports department with Lyell Bremser. When Cole returned to KFAB just a few years later he
was hired for the morning show, teamed up with KFAB's Legendary
personalities Kent Pavelka and, Walt
Kavanaugh. Rumor has it he holds the record for most
coffee spilled on a radio console! |
| Dennis Ernest launched his radio career in the early to mid 70's, interning at KSID in
Sidney during college. It was in the early 80's, while working
in Lincoln, that Ernest would become an award winner for his live coverage
of the Grand Island tornadoes. Dennis returned west for a stop at KRVN in
Lexington. Today Dennis and his "wonderful radio voice"
are heard at another Nebraska Rural Radio Association station -- KNEB in
Scottsbluff. |

Don Gill
|
There used to be options off the field when listening to Nebraska Football.
Don Gill dedicated his career at KLIN to bringing
the Huskers to life in Lincoln as well as a network of stations across the
state. It didn't end in radio. Gill went on to Nebraska's ETV
network at UNL in his later years. |
| One of Omaha's most recognized voices, with a heart and soul
for radio is Dwight Lane. Recently returning to his PM Drive shift
at KEFM, Lane served as General Manager for Mix 96 while it was owned by
Webster. Dwight has also served as a chairman for the
Nebraska Broadcasters Association. Many Omahan's still remember him
as "Night Train Lane" from his days at KGOR. |

Bob Palmer Sr is another of those "Back in
the Day" KOIL DJ's. Palmer hung out with people like Bob
Dean, Lyle Nelson and Kent Pavelka long before they were household
names. Before going to Rock and Roll Heaven nearly 14 years ago,
Palmer would go on to KXKT and eventually program the station now known as
KSRZ. His son Bob Jr carries on the family radio
tradition at Waitt Radio.

| Mike Shane's colorful career began on the
East Coast where he hosted, engineered and occasionally got paid.
He was
there the "day top 40 music
died" in 1982 as MD for WOW. He went on to spin oldies at KGOR and host on KFAB
(when they still played music!) Network producer, traffic reporter and
assistant Engineer were also part of his routine at 5010 Underwood.
His Engineer cap came in handy when putting Roger W Morgan's "Retro
Rock" on the air and at KCRO where he was OM until 2003.
Today Mike is heard on the Waitt "Country Today" and
"Classic Country Networks. |

Alison Steele
|
Alison Steele has been in the
business for 17 years. She has spent most of her time in the
Midwest, except for a gig in Hawaii. Steel has spent the past 10
years in Nebraska at stations like Z-92 where she was Music Director and
KCTY where she was Program Director. Steele's voice talent is also
in demand locally and regionally. She is currently working for Waitt
Radio Networks "AC Pure" format. |

Tony Wike came to Omaha in 1985, where "Cap'n
Tony" teamed with Steve Lundy as the
Sweet 98 Breakfast Flakes. Tony would meet up with Lundy again at
KKAR in the mid 90's. Then it was on to KGOR where he and Roger W.
Morgan did wakeup duty . Wike went on to produce Morgan's
syndicated program "Rock N' Roll Rewind" and program the
Retro Rock network. In 2002 he joined KEFM then Jack Swanda for
mornings in February '03. In
between, Tony has performed thousands of radio and TV voiceovers, two movies,
and animation voices in four TV series have.

Bill Wood

Dick
Perry and Bill Wood are two names synonymous with the longevity of KFOR's
popularity and rich heritage. Teamed up for mornings, Perry and Wood
literally woke up the city of Lincoln every morning with the highest rated
morning show the Capital city has ever had.

| From 1989-2002 Jack and Fred got Omaha "out of
bed" at KEFM . Jack had been at KGOR
since 1982 when Fred Brooks came on board in 1987. In 1989 Light 96
gave them the opportunity to do a fully supported two person morning
show. The duo then went on help KEFM attain record high
ratings. Brooks was the 800 number voice for "Who Wants To Be A
Millionaire". Today Jack Swanda remains at Mix 96 while Fred Books is
sleeping in a bit later, with PM Drive duties at
WIBW-FM in Topeka, KS. The photo of Jack and Fred was part of a

Joe & Timmo
|
Joe & Timmo worked together for about a year and a
half "before the famous axe fell that took away Gabe Baptiste, Joe, Timmo, Michelle Chase and the
gang" at KFMQ in Lincoln. Joe went to the KATT in Oklahoma City
and Timmo went to Z-92 in Omaha. In December of
1991 Joe & Timmo decided to reunite at the Eagle (KTGL) with a 9
year run until 2002. Today Joe and Timmo have their own identities with
KTGL and Clear Channel - Lincoln. (Many people were fooled by the
Barry Switzer Look-alike!) |
Inductees to the " Personalities" section are based
on the votes of participating radio personalities all across the state of
Nebraska, between July & October , 2003. Many fine people simply did not
make it, but don't forget to nominate them again next year! If you
