Class of 2001

People who made their radio careers here in Nebraska

While many  carry a long list of stations on their resume,  Cathy Blythe has spent her radio career at one station--KFOR.  She began as receptionist in 1972.  A decade later Lincoln had their reception on KFOR to listen to Cathy when she began hosting the morning show in 1982.   She began her popular  "Problems & Solutions" program in 1991.  Cathy Blythe is the only Nebraska Radio personality to have a Marconi Award from the NAB.
The mighty 1290 KOIL and KFAB were home to one of Nebraska's well known voices. For 45 seasons (1939 - 1983)  Lyell Bremser  was the memorable voice behind the mic, broadcasting Nebraska Football to every "man, woman and child" for 1110 KFAB.
He was that  booming voice synonymous  with the promotion of  The "Mighty 1290".  Today Steve Brown  (still at KOIL's original spot on the dial) talks to Omaha on News Talk 1290 KKAR.
A  voice familiar to many in Southwest and Central Nebraska Randy Buschkoetter  became a favorite radio personality to listeners of KICX AM/FM in McCook and KKPR in the Tri Cities.

As with Randy, It's not always the big city that puts a personality in the spotlight.  Harry Gehrett from KHUB has the votes of Fremont radio folks in this years Nebraska Radio Personalities Hall of Fame.
When DJ's rocked around the clock and started talking over song ramps, Sandy Jackson was there!  Heard on stations like KOIL, WOW, KOWH and eventually at Lincoln's KLIN-FM (KEZG).
Even the greatest stations have to go.  The legendary WOW was one of them, but the voice of Bill Jensen helps to keep the memories alive at Journal Broadcasting's 590, KOMJ.
From the sidelines, Tom Johnson has the vote!  One of the many distinctive voices that have carried husker broadcasts into the homes of Nebraskan's from KFAB.

The charter class of the  Nebraska Radio Personalities Hall Of Fame would not be complete without the institution in Omaha radio news, from the Institution known as KFAB, Walt Kavanaugh.
Who says nice guys finish last?  Steve Lundy  has graced the microphones of many first rate stations like Sweet 98, KKAR, KEFM, KOIL , WOW, KHUB, KKRD, and currently  KLIN.

Rod Meyer, Another distincitve voice of contemporary Nebraska Radio, gets votes from those who know his work from KFRX, KHUB, WOW, KOIL and Sweet 98.

Even those who were 'Morganized' agree that Roger W. Morgan belongs in the Nebraska Radio Personalities Hall Of Fame.  From the heyday of the Mighty 1290,  to his days at KFAB and KGOR, Roger brought Nebraska radios alive.  He's became world wide scale with his Syndicated "Rock & Roll Rewind" and the Marconi Connection Radio Network.

Known for her diversity in radio.  Mary O'Keefe has been a morning show host at 93 K--Rock, a morning and afternoon talker at KFAB and KKAR, plus  KIOS and KVNO.

Best known for his days in the Husker booth and KFAB, Nebraska's own Gary Sadlemyer has been a choice of  many listeners since his days at KRGI in Grand Island.

Frank Scott - If you remember the original KLNG and KBON, then you aren't surprised that Frank Scott is one of the first inductees into the Nebraska Radio Personalities Hall Of Fame.

His name is synonymous with the glory days of KLMS, Lincoln's Music Station.  J Marshall Stewart continues the  tradition at KKUL "Kool 105.3"..

One station was all he needed to make himself a place in Nebraska Radio history.  Bob "Wake up With Wilson" Wilson  of 1290 KOIL.

Another household name that did more than talk over records during his days at Z-92 is OTIS XII.  Otis has shown up at CD-105, KOCU and even in talk radio at KFAB and KKAR.

It's fitting that Scott Young joins the Nebraska Radio Personalities Hall Of Fame as a "charter" member.  Before recently 'retiring' , Scott Young was one of the first voices Lincoln heard on KFOR each morning for nearly 20 years.

Inductees to the "Nebraska Radio  Personalities" section are based on the votes of participating radio personalities all across the state of  Nebraska, between August 11th & September 21, 2001. Many fine people simply did not make it, but don't forget to nominate them again next year!   If you have any errors or corrections, feel free to submit them to the address below.
